Wadiz Publishing School, I'll show you a 5-minute summary
Wadiz School offers a variety of education to millions of makers. Among them, we introduce an education named Independent Publishing A to Z One-Day Class: Let's Publish with Funding, which scored 4.7 out of 5 satisfaction points. Since it was closed in less than a week, I prepared this article to soothe a little bit of the regret of those who couldn't attend the lecture.

In the past, books could only be published through publishers, but now they can be published by anyone through crowdfunding. But making a book that sells is a completely different challenge. Maybe it's a challenge that the maker wants more.
Today, I'm going to give a hint to makers who want to challenge publishing projects on how to plan a book that sells.
the terms and conditions of a book being sold
Why do you want to start a publishing project? It should be for at least one of the four below.
- Self-realization (My dream is to publish a book under my name once in my life)
- To give someone joy and fun
- To convince the reader to change the world for the better
- To deliver fun and informative information
Except for self-realization, all other reasons can only be achieved if they are sold, that is, books that people want to read.
At this time, what are the conditions for a book to be sold?
①The purpose of publishing, ② my own story, ③ trend, and ④ the lifestyle of the target, if you meet all four conditions, the possibility of a book being sold increases.
How to plan a book that sells
It's not difficult as long as you follow the three ways to introduce below step by step.
First, find a story that only I can tell (= choose a topic)
Do you think the topic I set is not special? It's okay. If you find a story that only you can tell on the same topic, you can make it attractive enough.
| Way | expectation effectiveness | Idea → A story that only I can tell |
|---|---|---|
| Try to set a special concept : How to combine two or more less relevant materials into one topic |
It draws your readers' curiosity, and then builds a consensus to win them over | Story featuring a dog [cat] → Picture book with a story of a virtual store that comforts tired people such as 'Puppy Laundry' or 'Cat Bakery' |
| Grab the details in a special way : How to narrow down the subject |
It can pique your curiosity about information you didn't know before | My favorite bread story → 1 bread a day, recommended by Bbangsooni, Seoul [Jeju / Jeonju / Busan] Map of restaurants |
| To capture enlightenment from experience : How to vividly talk about why my experience is valuable and special |
You can be fascinated by the story and dream of a new challenge | The change Miracle Morning brought to life → The miracle of classical literature I read at 5 a.m. every morning: Nothing special, I succeeded in getting a job abroad |
| Overseas Travel → A collection of overseas travel tips for college students who don't have money: From tips for efficient expenses to how to make friends |
Second, researching trends
The more stories I want to tell overlap with stories that many others may be curious about, the better it will be a book that sells, right? I look into what many people are interested in.
1) Investigating the Online and Offline Publishing Market
- I visit online and offline bookstores to browse at least 10 books that I can make into a set topic.
- Checklist: title, table of contents, format, content, size and atmosphere
2) a look at the best-selling titles of the publishing market
- Regardless of the subject and field, we collect the titles of the best-selling books that have recently captured people's hearts. And I can get insights on what they have in common.
3) Browse online content related to the topic
- Search YouTube, Instagram, blogs, etc. for related keywords and look around the contents.
Third, analyze the reader of my book
This time, we look into the specific interests, opinions, and concerns of prospective readers of my book. If you understand what my readers like and what books they want to read, my books will also become popular, right?
1) Browse comments from online content related to the topic
- I can look at trends to see what kind of thoughts and concerns people have about the topic I'm trying to write. You can also look into the lifestyles of people who can be potential targets.
- I collect comments after searching related keywords on YouTube, Instagram, blogs, etc.
- Find common things to talk about and draw insights
2) Read trend reports or newsletters that analyze the lifestyle of your target
Let's publish with funding It will continue with episode 2.
In the next episode, we will come back with vivid examples of how you can plan a book with a specific topic!
